Meeting Announcement

The next meeting of the Amherst Railway Society will be on Tuesday October 16, 2001, 8:00 p.m., in the cafeteria of the Amherst Middle School.

Railroad Engineering Lessons Learned
by Brett Rekola

Brett, a well known railroad engineer and land surveyor, will present a summary of the recently completed Portland to Boston Amtrak New Start Project, where he served as the project manager and engineer of construction from 1993 to 2000. He will discuss the project history, facts, present a case study of the work, and talk about lessons learned. He will also be able to field general railroad engineering questions.

Brett Rekola, PE/PLS owns and operates Rekola Engineers & Surveyors, Inc. with his wife Karen in Webster, MA. Brett received a BS in Civil Engineering from U-Conn and a Diploma in General Business Admin. from Harvard Univ. Extension in 1999. He joined Conrail as a management trainee in 1977 and held various engineering and management positions with the railroad for 13 yrs. Since 1993, he has served as a railroad and engineering consultant to several local, state and federal agencies east of the Mississippi. Currently, Brett is serving as a project manager for the $1.8 billion dollar redevelopment of the harbors and ports in NY/NJ for the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey.

Hopefully, most of you know about our show in West Springfield at the "Big E" fairgrounds. It's not too early to start thinking about how you can help. It takes many hands to make this show the success it has always been. You can help distribute flyers prior to the show, or perhaps help with setup or dismantling. There are many ways.
