RAILROADS AND ELECTRIC RAILROADS AROUND THE WORLD
By Dr. Ira B. Laby, InD, BMT, IRT
Dr. Laby had been a member of the Railway Society for many years, and most of you probably know him as Ira. He has been gracious enough to fill in with a program on short notice. In his own words Ira says of his program: "many of these photographs were taken during those mid '50s trying years when I was busy Saving the World from the Commie Menace --and look what a good job I did! I shall relate ferroequinological tales of derringdo in pursuit of photos, such as being arrested by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad police in Clifton forge, Virginia, and of piloting an unwitting trainload of commuters to Boston's North Shore."
It sounds like we're in for a treat.
Mark your calendars now! Big Railroad Hobby Show. February 1 & 2, 2003
Some of you have asked how we did on the show this year. Financial figures are not available yet, however ticketed attendance was 18,746 total. This does not include vendors or children under 5 yrs. It was a great success thanks to all of you who spent all or part of 4 days at the Big E performing various tasks. Special thanks to Sandy Dorfer, Office Manager, and all who work behind the scenes throughout the year to make this show happen.
For Your Information: The Conn. Eastern Chapter of the NRHS is sponsoring a passenger excursion on the Providence and Worcester RR from Plainfield, CT north through Worcester to Gardner. The return trip south will be on the Old Norwich and Worcester Line, through Tafts Tunnel, to Groton, CT and back to Plainfield, CT. For more info, call Veronica before 6:00 p.m. at 401-568-6202.
