The next meeting of the Amherst Railway Society will be Tuesday, April 16, 2002, 8:00 p.m. at the Amherst Regional High School.

Author David R. Sweetland will share with us slides and adventures of 10 years of his lifetime of exploring New England railroads. He grew up in southern New England, and started photography on the New Haven RR. His day trips soon involved the Boston & Maine, Boston & Albany, and Central Vermont as well.

In 1955, Mr. Sweetland moved to Maine to study engineering at the Univ. of Maine, allowing him to view the Maine Central, Bangor and Aroostook, Grand Trunk, and Canadian Pacific’s International of Maine Division. In 1959, he took a position on the PRR in the Mechanical Dept. at the Altoona Works. David Sweetland is a prolific author of railroad books including a 3 vol. Set on Passenger Cars of New England, The Delaware and Hudson in color, and New England Rails: 1948 - 1968. If you happen to own one of his books, why not bring it along for an autograph.

The Holyoke Soldiers Home Model Railroad Club is featured n the April 2002 issue of Model Railroader magazine. The article, written by Amherst member Frank Grano, tells the story of the Holyoke Central RR and gives thanks to the members of Amherst Railway Society for their donations of equipment and materials.

As always, we invite you to bring along models, photographs, etc. to share at the meeting. A table is available at the back of the hall.
