Amherst Railway Society

If you like to meet with others who share your interest in railroading, please feel free to attend our monthly meetings in Amherst Massachusetts. The calendar below has detailed information on each upcoming meeting.

The Amherst Railway Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. except for the months of December, February, July and August. Meetings are held in the auditorium at the Amherst Junior High School, Chestnut Street, Amherst MA. Meetings are open to both members and non-members.

If you are interested in joining our organization, regular membership dues are $10 per year. Full-time student memberships are free.

19 Meeting - ""Hazmat and the Safety Train" presented by Mr. John O'Neill, Safety Train Manager, Massachusets Call/Volunteer Firefighters Association.
30 Trip - "Crawford Notch Express" Motor coach from Warren, MA to N. Conway, NH. Round-trip on Conway Scenic Railroad between North Conway and Fabyan Station, NH.
17 Meeting - "Railways of Great Britain" presented by Mr. Brian Solomon, Railroad Photographer and Author.
29 & 30 Trip - Autumn Rail Excursion from Willimantic & Mansfield Depot, CT to Amherst, MA, & Brattleboro, VT
21 Meeting - "It's More Than A Train" presented by Mr. Carl Lindblade, Executive Director, The Flying Yankee Restoration Group, Inc.
16 Meeting - "Railroading, Army Style" presented by First Lieutenant Tim Christiansen, Commanding Officer, 226th Transportation Railway Company, 1205th Transportation Railway Operating Battalion, US Army Reserve.
 3 & 4  Hobby Show - Amherst Railway Society's Annual "Big Railroad Hobby Show" in the Better Living Center, Young Building and Stroh Building, Eastern States Exposition, West Springfield, MA. 9 AM to 5 PM both days.
20 Meeting - Logging Railroads. Speaker: Kent Larson.
17 Meeting - "A Century of Canadian National as Modeled in HO" presented by Mr. David Geisler, Canadian National Special Interest Group and Grand Trunk Historical Society.
28 Dinner - Chester Foundation Luncheon for Amherst Railway Society
15 Meeting - "Two Foot Rails to Albion" presented by Mr. Larson Powell, President of Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum.
 2 & 3  Trip - "Steamtown Safari" Moter coach Warren, MA to Scranton, PA. Visit Steamtown National Historic Site and ride steam train to Moscow, PA. Lodging at Radisson/Lackawanna Station.
19 Meeting - Mr. Jim Shantz will speak about "The Seashore Trolley Museum and Heritage Trolley Planning in Lowell".
 22  Trip - ARS day at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum
 29  Trip - Crawfprd Notch Express Saturday, September 29, 2001.
