Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum's "Then and Now"
by Sam Bartlett

Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum's Then and Now takes the viewer through time on a narrated trip along the Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway. The show intermixes pictures from the SF&C's heyday with current pictures from the same vantage point, and narrates the development, rise and fall of the trolley line that built the Bridge of Flowers. More about the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum can be found at

Narrator Sam Bartlett first started coming to Amherst Railway Society shows with his father in 1969 at age ten. While earning his BS in electrical engineering at UMass he worked summers on the Conway Scenic Railroad as a fireman and brakeman. He is currently self-employed as an electrical engineering consultant in the motion control and sensors field. He has been president of the SFTM since 2000, and spearheaded SFTM's purchase and rehabilitation of the Shelburne Falls Freight Yard where SFTM operates trolley No 10 on the weekends. In his 'spare' time he keeps the old Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington Railroad bed cleared for cross-country skiing on Vermont's Catamount Trail (
