"AROUND THE WORLD IN 45 MINUTES:
From China to Chicopee"

by Jim Cameron

Connecticut Rail Advocate and author Jim Cameron will take us on a rail adventure from The Nutmeg State to China, showing us the latest in commuter rail in Connecticut to High Speed Rail in Japan and China. Cameron spent 19 years as Chairman of the Connecticut Metro-North Rail Commuter Council, appointed by the legislature as a watchdog of commuters’ interests. He will update us on the terrible safety and service issues affecting that railroad… and give us a glimpse into his recent travels to ride the best and fastest trains in the world, in Japan and China.

Jim Cameron was born and raised in one of the most transit-friendly cities in North America… Toronto Canada. His fascination with all-things “rail” led him to his work as a transit advocate in the early 90’s. As a commuter he saw first-hand the deterioration of service on Metro-North, but rather than just “getting mad”, he did something about it, joining the “Connecticut Metro-North Rail Commuter Council” of which he was Chairman for four years. In 2013 he started “The Commuter Action Group” to advocate for riders on Metro-North in CT and NY.

He is member of the Representative Town Meeting in Darien CT… is Program Director of the town’s TV station, TV79… and is author of the newspaper column and blog, “Talking Transportation” which now runs in 23 newspapers across the state.

In his professional work as a communications consultant, he calls on his earlier career as a broadcaster and journalist at NBC News and the RKO Radio networks. He is also the recipient of a George Foster Peabody Award.

Jim lives in Darien CT with his wife of 23 years. They love to travel, especially by rail.
