Meeting Announcement

The next meeting of the Amherst Railway Society will be at 7:30 pm, (Note new, earlier time) Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Amherst Regional Middle School Auditorium.

The Art of the American Railway by Robert Frascella
Robert Frascella's presentation, titled the "Art of the American Railway" will feature the creative process that he uses in preparing his paintings that represent a bygone era in American Railroading.  He will discuss how he made the transition from an avid railfan/photographer to a fine artist.   During the presentation, he will touch upon the medium that he uses, describe his technique with a demonstration of the process that he uses, and highlight samples of his work.

Railroad Artist, Robert Frascella, has been exclusively working in pastel since 1997 focusing mainly on scenes that depict the glory years of American Railroading. Mr. Frascella is self-taught and has not had any formal art instruction. His paintings have been featured in several railroad publications and periodicals, including The Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette, and The Keystone. Most of his paintings illustrate scenes of railroading in the Northeast region of the United States and include numerous scenes from Upstate New York and Central Pennsylvania. More recently, his work has been focused on the railroads of New England. All of his scenes are real places and though the trains displayed are long gone, the paintings are historically accurate for the era represented.
