From railroad barons and murders to streetcar scams and train derailments, Rev. Smith’s book outlines the colorful history of rail transportation through the town of Amherst, Massachusetts, as well as surrounding communities, spanning the years from 1826 to the present day. James Avery Smith will speak about the history of rail service in Amherst, and his experiences writing the book. Editor Kerstin Becker’s Powerpoint presentation will introduce you to some of the material covered in the book.
The book will be available for purchase before and after the meeting. Members that have their membership cards with them will be able to take advantage of the 10% member discount.
