Amherst Railway Society - meeting - June, 2016
Date: Tuesday, June 21, 2016
Time: 7:30 pm
Place: Amherst Regional Middle School, Amherst, MA
The Amherst Railway Society is a community of people who share a fascination with railroads, and has been
for over 50 years. If we go all the way back to the mid-1950s, we find a small group of University of Massachusetts students and faculty
members who realized that they shared a common interest in railroads. So they started meeting regularly to share railroad knowledge,
photographs, and stories.
Harvey Allen was one of those students.
On June 21, Harvey will recount the early days of the Amherst Railway Society, and the events that lead
to him becoming the first President of the organization.
Harvey was also a witness to the steam-to-diesel transition in Amherst, Massachusetts - and he photographed it!
Following the business meeting, Harvey will share photos and stories of that important part of railroad history.
June is also the annual business meeting. This year the membership will be electing a club Secretary, and one at-large
member of the Board of Directors. Board members will also be discussing the club’s events and direction for the next year.
