Amherst Railway Society - meeting - May, 2017Date: Wednesday, May 10, 2017
A Family-Centric Model RailroadOn May 10, Kevin Davis will present the Lionel FasTrack Modular Layout Standard, and how he has modified the standard to develop a layout system that is ideal for families. Kevin’s emphasis on family-friendly model railroading started in 2014 when his then 3-year-old son damaged the wheels (unintentionally) of his prized N-scale GG1. “I knew right then that I had to come up with a more rugged approach to modeling,” says Davis. “My children were young, plus, I liked the idea of a modular layout that could stand on its own, or be part of a larger set-up.” With those thoughts in mind, Kevin designed a modular layout based on the Lionel FasTrack system. Kevin’s layout has been displayed at shows in North Carolina, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and has been incorporated into three Lionel FasTrack modular club layouts. Several of Kevin’s modules will be on display at the May 10 meeting. Kevin is a member of the Mohegan-Pequot Model Railroad Club (MPRR) and is the founder of the MPRR’s O-Gauge modular layout program. Amherst Railway Society meetings are open to the public.
