Chasing the J - Hunting ALCOs - and more…
Gary Munsy is a pro when it comes to rail-fan road trips. In 2017, Gary, along with several other Amherst members made two memorable trips - one to Virginia to photograph N&W 611, and the other to New York and Pennsylvania in search of operating ALCOs. On Wednesday, May 9th, Gary will present a multi-media slide show showcasing these two trips. Chasing the J - documents Norfolk & Western J-class steam engine 611 on it’s run between Lynchburg and Petersburg, Virginia. This trip also includes photos of Norfolk Southern, Virginia Railway Express commuter service, Amtrak, and CSX, as well as photos taken along the Buckingham Branch Railroad. Hunting ALCOs - in August, Gary traveled to New York and Pennsylvania to capture operating ALCOs on the Delaware and Ulster Railroad and the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad. The show wraps up with a personal look at 30 years working for Springfield Terminal Railway, Guilford Rail System and PanAm Railways. Gary Munsey recently retired from Pan Am Railways where he worked as a train dispatcher for 30 years. He is an active modeler with the Amherst Belt Lines and owner of the Cheat River Railroad, his home layout. Additional hobbies include collecting and restoring antique International Harvester Farmall tractors. He also participates in several Antique Truck Clubs and Historical Construction Equipment groups. Gary lives in Pepperell, Massachusetts.
