The Last Giants: Timbering in West Virginia

The presentation will tell the story ofthe last two giants of the lumber industry in the eastern United States, namely the Mower Lumber Co. and the Meadow River Lumber Co. It will not only look at trains, but also at the process of logging and producing lumber. The State Park at Cass West Virginia helps to keep alive the history of logging in West Virginia. Mr. Larson and his wife, Pam, have been going to Cass every year since 1976, and will share a few of their pictures from last season. He is a local railfan, coming from the Boston area and belonging to several New England railroad oriented organizations.

2001 Big Railroad Hobby Show was a sellout !!

Congratulations to all who helped make this year s show the best yet. Paid attendance was 19,182. Including children under 5, vendors and volunteers, we probably had around 22,000 people. Plans are already underway for next year s show February 2 & 3, 2002. Mark your calendars now!

Once again, we are planning another trip to the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton,PA. The trip will leave early on Saturday June 2, and return late on Sunday June 3, 2001. This is a very interesting and fun trip. The last two years we have been able to mark the progress being made on the restoration of the Boston and Maine 3713 in the Steamtown shops.
