It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

At least that is what the Staples or OfficeMax advertisements would lead us to believe. You know the ads – the kids are standing in front of back-to-school supplies while the father gleefully tosses items into the cart as he drifts by?! Well, the calendar showing late August and the flood of mail for the kids about teachers and homeroom assignments for the coming year signals the start of the school year, and the start of the Railroad Show season. So without further ado, here is our fall line-up:

This Year’s Schedule So Far

We don’t have a full schedule yet for the coming year, but here is what we do know:

Mark these dates on your calendar now so you won’t forget them. We expect that the year will be rounded out by shows in Auburn, MA in February, 2005 and Warwick, RI, in March as has been the case in past years, but it is too early to finalize these details. As we get more information, we will pass it along to you.

Pepperell Siding Model Railroad Club Show

Last year the Pepperell Siding Model Railroad Club moved their show from Townsend, Massachusetts to Hollis, New Hampshire and from October to September. Considering the factors involved in this kind of move, the Club did very well in changing both venue and date for the show. It was successful enough that they have decided to hold the show at the same location and in the same month again this year.

The seventeenth annual Pepperell Siding Model Railroad Club show will be held on September 19, 2004 at the Hollis Brookline High School in Hollis, New Hampshire. Setup for the show is on Saturday, September 18. As of this writing, the layout is pretty well set in size and configuration as space is limited, for the time being, at this show. If you would like to come out to lend a hand in setup and/or operations, please let any of the coordinators know as soon as possible so that appropriate accommodations can be made. Directions to the show are available on request.

Bedford Boomer’s 22nd Annual Model Railroad Exhibition

The Bedford Boomer’s show is still a couple of months off, but it is not too late to start planning for this event. The official invitation has not been received as of this writing, but we have heard some rumblings in the background that suggest we will be invited back for another year.

The Boomer's put on a "display only" Model Railroad Exhibition that is a refreshing change from the typical model railroad show. If you haven’t been up to Bedford, New Hampshire to see this show, this is the year to do so. The show will be Sunday, November 7, 2004 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with setup and other events on Friday evening and Saturday, November 5 and 6. The show is held at the McKelvie Middle School in Bedford and is an easy trip from almost anywhere; directions are available on request.

After the layout is setup, we have some time to operate or attend some of the clinics that the Boomer’s typically put on. Saturday evening has usually involved a group dinner hosted by the Belforti’s and then a trip to a local layout for operations, or some other form of entertainment. A good time is usually had by all during this railroading weekend.

If you would like to participate in this event this year, with or without modules, please contact Alan by September 20 so that he can plan the layout and so that other accommodations can be made. It is important to let Alan know of your participation, regardless of whether or not you bring a module, as the Boomer's require all participants to have name tags which they provide for security purposes. We must submit a list to the Boomer's as soon as is practical to get these name badges printed.

We look forward to seeing you in Bedford!

Parts is Parts

Our May newsletter included a picture of the parts sprues for this year’s gift car from Intermountain Railway Company. A few of our kit builders noticed that they were missing some parts and wanted to know what was in the kit. If you have started to assemble the car, please reference the newsletter or the web page to see if you are missing anything. If parts are missing, please let the coordinators know so that we can get the necessary items from Intermountain...

Change of Address

Please note that the email addresses for both Sudro and Alan have changed this month. Sudro’s new address is WCRY_1960@comcast.net and Alan’s is ABEL.planning@comcast.net. Please update your email address books and mailing lists accordingly. These address changes are effective as you read this.

That should do it for this edition of the Modular Mumblings. We are looking forward to another exciting show season and look forward to seeing you at the shows. See you in Hollis or Bedford!

Modular Railroading is FUN!
