The nominating committee has submitted the following names for 2009 – 2010 ARS Officers. (All nominees were elected at the meeting.)

With the exception of the nominee for Vice President, all of the people nominated are incumbents in their respective office.
The following is a statement from the nominee for Vice President of the ARS.
My name is Tom Laware Sr and I am seeking the position of Vice President. I have been a member of the ARS since the late 70's.
For the past two years, I have been a member and recording secretary of the train show committee.
My interest in trains goes back to my early childhood, having spent the first five years of my life living across the street from the Westboro, New Hampshire roundhouse.
One of the jobs of the Vice President is scheduling guest speakers for the monthly meetings. I would be happy to hear suggestions for speakers and would like to hear from anyone who would like to be a guest speaker.

Now is the time to think about renewing.
Free for Full Time students, 1 year for $20, 3 years for $50 and 5 years for $80
The annual meeting is the time that annual dues may be adjusted.
Take this time to renew your membership, even if your label does not have 2009 on it.
 Message from the Show Director:
In my past message, I may have mentioned that we are updating the database and have sent an update letter and a few questions in the form of a survey to all exhibitors and wait list contacts – a total of over 700 letters have gone out.
The survey asked short answer questions about current space and what would your “dream” space look like.
The survey also asked if people were aware of the Saturday evening dinner for exhibitors and finally their thoughts about opening the show for a few hours on Friday evening.
To date, we have over 250 surveys returned to us and are still receiving them every day.
We will report results to you at our last meeting of the year in June.
Speaking of the last meeting, it’s silent auction time…!!!
As a reminder, the silent auction will begin just after set up so come early to place your bids….We are projecting an opening at approximately 6:30 – 6:45 pm….it will begin as soon as we are set up….it will close promptly at 8:00pm and while we are conducting our meeting, we will tabulate results…
This is your chance to pick up some great stuff (many items are new), at a ridiculously low price and have some fun at the same time.
Items include works of art, cars and locos, vintage Lionel, scenic materials, books, throttles (some new still in the box), clothing and more.

From the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum:
The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum is located in Dennison, Ohio which was nicknamed “Dreamsville USA” during WWII for its service as a home front canteen that served 1.5 million servicemen and women.
Serving originally as a water stop, Dennison is located exactly halfway between Pittsburgh and Columbus.
Its 40 acres of railroad shops and yards were claimed to be some of the most complete and extensive in the country at the turn of the century.
At its height, 3,000 employees worked in the yards, 22 passenger trains stopped daily at the Depot, and Dennison was a freight and crew terminal.
Today, the 1873 Depot has been restored and houses a museum, restaurant and gift shop.
In addition to the building, a new wing has been created out of railroad cars and is connected to the building.
Exhibits include the Children’s Interactive Railroad Car, a “Save America’s Treasures” sponsored WWII hospital Car, Panhandle Theater, large n scale Model Train display of Dennison Yards, as well as other rolling stock and exhibits.
The Museum is open year round Tuesday through Sunday with a full calendar of events and exhibits including the American Soldiers Homecoming Festival in August and Polar Express in December.

National Train Show
®
– July 10-12, 2009
If you are looking for something to do after the Fourth of July Weekend, come on down to Hartford, CT for the National Train Show
®
at the NMRA
®
Hartford National Convention.
The show is open to the public from noon to 6:00PM on Friday, 10:00AM to 6:00PM on Saturday and 10:00AM to 5:00PM on Sunday.
The Amherst Belt Lines will be there, along with layouts from all over the region and the country.
Vendors and manufacturers will also be plentiful.
The show may not be as large in size as our own show, but there should be a slightly different mix of representation.
We have submitted our roster for the weekend.
Last minute changes can be made in June, but are not encouraged.
If you haven’t responded to Sudro, Clark or Alan, and would still like to participate, please contact them as soon as possible.
Once June is over, no more roster changes can be made.

Show Schedule Update
The Belt Lines attends about six shows per year from September through April.
As with every rule, the NMRA National Convention and Train Show in July will be the exception in 2009.
While the only firm invitation we have for next season is the Amherst Railway Society show, the following dates are for the shows we typically attend.
If you would like to mark your calendars ahead of time, here are the dates for the rest of the 2009:
- July 8-12, 2009: NMRA ® National Convention and Train Show – Hartford, CT
- October 4, 2009: Pepperell Siding Model Railroad Club Show – Pepperell, MA
- November 8, 2009: Bedford Boomers Railroad Exhibition – Bedford, MA
- December 5-6, 2009: New England Model Train Expo – Marlborough, MA
- January 30-31, 2010: Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show – Springfield, MA

DISNEY TRAIN COMING
Walt Disney Pictures is having a chartered Amtrak train tour the country promoting this falls release of “A Christmas Carol”.
The tour includes stops in Albany NY Sept 22, Boston Sept 25 -27, and New York City Oct 30 – Nov 1.
