Amherst Railway Society January 17, 2006 Meeting Announcement
The next meeting of the Amherst Railway Society is Tuesday, January 17, 2005, 8:00 p.m. at the Amherst Middle School.
Train Trips While Working for Trains by Mr. Bill Stephens
In this program, Bill Stephens will take you along as he rides locomotives and visits railroad yards and facilities while on assignment for TRAINS magazine. Youll visit Norfolk Southerns former Wabash and Nickel Plate lines form Detroit to Kansas City and Chicago to Buffalo, see Conrail intermodal terminals in New Jersey, take a ride on a snow plow pushed by former Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No. 261 at Steamtown and climb up in the cab of former Chesapeake & Ohio 4-8-4 No. 614. Youll also ride along on Canadian Pacifics Delaware & Hudson from Binghamton to Rouses Point, N.Y., and visit the Wheeling & Lake Erie to check out the forerunners of todays Beltpack remote-control locomotive systems.
Stephens, a former special correspondent for TRAINS and the former editor of its online NewsWire, wrote for the magazine from 1991 to 2003 and covered, among other things, the merger of Union Pacific and Southern Pacific and the breakup of Conrail between CSX and Norfolk Southern. He lives in Westfield, MA.

Please note: Because of our Big Railroad Hobby Show on January 28 & 29, there will be no meeting in February.
As always, please feel free to bring photos, models, etc. to share at meetings. A table is set up in the rear for that purpose.
All current members will receive one ticket pass to the show. You will need to turn this pass in at a ticket booth and receive a wristband that will allow you free access for that day only. The parking fee, which is a Big E fee, will be $5.00 per day.
It is not too late to consider helping at the show. A lot of help is needed on Thursday and Friday, as well as during the show, and of course with breaking down the show. Spend some time helping on Saturday or Sunday and your admission is free. You can then use your pass to get in on the other day. Our new Show Committee is trying hard to improve the show, and they need our help to make this one of the best shows.
Please consider now whether you can volunteer at our great show.
