Meeting Announcement
The next meeting of the Amherst Railway Society is Tuesday, June 20, 2006, 8:00 p.m., at the Amherst Middle School.

Brian Solomon is a second-generation railroad photographer, having inherited his passion from his father. Brian began railway photography at age 5 with a twilight photo of a former New Haven Railroad signal east of the East Haven tunnel using his father's Leica M3.
He grew up in Monson, MA, attended Hampshire College in Amherst, and later earned a Bachelor of Fine arts degree in Photographic Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology. After a stint working as a professional photographer, he was hired by Pentrex Publishing to help edit Passenger Train Journal and Pacific Rail News, and later became Editor of PRN. As a freelance author since 1996, Brian has produced more than 30 books on railways, including two books on railway stations. He has published more than 2000 photographs in calendars, brochures and publications including Railway Age, TRAINS Magazine, and the Journal of the Irish Railway Record Society. In addition he has traveled widely, visiting railway operations in more than 25 countries around the world.

At this June meeting, our annual meeting, we will have a short business meeting including the following:
- 1. Election of Officers and Directors for 2006-2007
- 2.Vote on 2 by-law proposals. Copies of these proposals are included with this mailing.
- 3. A reading of the list of grant awards as proposed by the Board of Directors.
Renewals: Our fiscal year ends on June 30, 2006. Please check the year on the mailing label of your newsletter. If it says "2006", your membership expires very soon. Dues are $15.00/ 1 year, $40.00/ 3 years and $60.00/ 5 years.
Refreshment Committee update: As of now, we still have no one to be responsible for coffee and doughnuts next fall when meetings resume. This could possibly mean there will be no coffee and doughnuts until we get 3 people. This is not a difficult job; 2 people could handle it, but 3 are better in case one person can't make it. Someone picks up the doughnuts and supplies. Someone else sets up the coffee pot before the meeting and has to take it home afterwards.
