2004 Grants Announced by Amherst Railway Society
Members of the Amherst Railway Society approved 25 grants totaling $31,000 at the annual business meeting on June 15, 2004. The grants are made by the society to assist in rail related restoration and preservation projects and are made possible through the proceeds of the Amherst Railway Societys Annual Big Railroad Hobby Show.
Grants for building or facility repair or restoration were awarded to Old Colony & Fall River RR Museum, Connecticut Eastern RR Museum, Albion (ME) Historical Society, Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum , Connecticut Trolley Museum and the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington RY Museum. Locomotive and rolling stock restoration project grants went to Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter NRHS, Railroad Museum of New England, Maine Narrow Gauge RR Co., Flying Yankee Restoration Group, Friends of Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR, Boothbay RY Village, National Railroad Foundation, Downeast Rail and the Danbury Railway Museum. Funding for trolley projects was granted to Boston Street Railway Assoc., Rockhill Trolley Museum, Shoreline Trolley Museum and the Seashore Trolley Museum.
Other organizations receiving grants included Kalmbach Memorial Library, Friends of Bedford Depot Park, New York Central System Historical Society, Friends of the Keystone Arches, Palmer (MA) Public Library and the Western CT Chapter NRHS.
The Amherst Railway Society is a non-profit organization and membership is open to anyone interested in any form of railroading. Monthly meetings feature speakers from the railroad industry, historians, authors, photographers and rail enthusiasts.
